I've really been hauling in the experiences here in Belgium - in the space of 2 weeks, I've learnt more than I could imagine. From training, to diet, to racing and everything in between, it's all coming together. But to counter the good, there always seems to be the bad...
In my case, I've had nothing but bad luck in racing. Last week, as in the diary entry, I ended up going off road at 50km/h. In a hope to redeem myself on a brutal course this week, I made a bee line for the front of the peleton in what was a 120km Kermesse. Being a particularly intense course I had a lot working in my favour. The lap was 10km consisting of; 200m of wet cobbles and pave', a sharp climb followed by 4 dangerous and slippery corners, a long 1km downhill, and finally a sharp right hander into the finish straight. We were to do 12 laps, and by lap 1 I was in the front eschelons. By the 2nd lap I was sitting on the front waiting for a perfect move with any of the big names. But come lap 3, I hit a corner flat box and as I stood up to accelerate, my chain snapped! Moving on, I've had a solid 3 days of training in well, the wind, the rain and cold (all at the same time!) And tomorrow I'm racing in Laarne, about an hours drive away. Hopefully nothing will go wrong this time, since it'd be nice to finish another race! |
