A tough day on the bike yesterday to say the least! I headed over to Hoegaarden for a 115km Kermesse made up of 9 laps - with short power climbs, long and exposed sidewind (gutter) sections and really no time to catch your breath...
The race went okay for me, but not as well as races have gone in the past. I got into a move of 15 guys in the 2nd or 3rd lap but a lack of coordination meant that the peleton reeled us in pretty quickly. At this point another move went without me in it, with more cooperative riders on board, and subsequently stayed clear for the entire race, opening up a 2min gap by the races' end. I finished in the main field, getting 3rd in the bunch sprint and 35th overall - not the top 20 I wanted, but still a good learning experience! Today everyone in the house had a massage which was seemingly more painful than yesterdays' race! But I'm sure my legs will feel a little better by tomorrow (I'm heading out to the Ardennes to do some decent climbing training with the "crew" from the house here) Tot ziens til next time! |
