I woke up to perfect sunny skies this morning, and wondered whether I should get up... But seeing as it was 10am, and I was racing - I decided to get out of bed. After about half a kilogram of muesli and 2 coffees, I was ready to take on the world! I reckon it's a good feeling to have on the morning of an insane race...

At about 1:30pm we rolled out to ride about 10km to Glabeek where the race would be held. The event was 120km, consisting of 16 laps. Each lap had 2 climbs, 4 long gutter straights where the field was torn to shreds each lap. There were also 3 super fast corners where, if hit fast enough could give you the perfect platform for an attack. Or send you into the pavement at 50km/h... Your call!

 By lap 6 of 16, loads of riders pulled out and just couldn't handle the changes in pace. I was seconds from ending up in a self induced coma, when the pace slowed down, I recovered and got back into the middle of the field. The pace stayed fast but consistent from lap 6 to lap 13... and from here all hell broke loose! There were attacks, counter attacks and loads of close calls... But I made it through to the final lap, and made my way to the front (safer there!) There were 3 groupettos up the road too, so we were just racing for cash bonuses (primes, and top 30 finishers)

Rounding the final corner, the leadout kicked into top gear, and just keeping up was almost impossible. I managed to nab 15th in the bunch, and taking into account the 3 groupettos up the road, *I'm guessing I got top 40. It might not sound like much, but I think watching the race live would put it into perspective for you.

Another race on Monday I hope, so fingers on the keys for another update!

* CORRECTION - 32nd / 155 Elite... Sorry John, I know I promised a top 30  ;-)
