Back on Board - officially!

With a lung infection grounding me for over 2 weeks, I started training again 4 days ago, then missed a day out of fear of falling sick again. Then training a day, and missing yet another - just to make sure! The slightest sniffle, or headache or cough (especially) had me sh*!ting myself at the thought of yet another week off the bike. But today I rode with the Mt. Eliza group and I felt amazing. So now I'm offiially back on track.

With the lack of riding, I'd lost the ability to ride any RPM over say, 75rpm without my heart rate sky rocketing. So today I focused on holding my cadence on or above 100rpm for the entirety of the ride. I struggled at first, but soon settled into a rhythm. My heart rate was in excess of 150bpm without me even trying, which isn't a good thing! But it's to be expected.

The skies opened up near the halfway point of the 100km ride, so I did a pretty quick U-turn and figured I'd do a short 10km ITT effort from Frankston towards St Kilda. I felt surprisingly good, and sat on around 40km/h with my heart rate sitting steadily on 160bpm despite the increased effort - happy days! Mind you, the last 10km home was a bit of a drag...

Tomorrow is a TTT (team time trial) and I'm keen to pull some turns on the front, and get my heart rate and efforts to fluctuate a bit more than today. The entire TFM AVANTI team should be in attendance, so I'd best take some coffee money along, because we're bound to find some excuse to 'review the training session' at some cafe. Anyway, off to do some household chores before my core session with Dare to Live Personal Training - can't wait. I love pain. Well at least that's what my coach wants to hear!
