Just a brief update on Phillip Island, because I'm sitting in bed sniffing and coughing. It's really great... The TFM AVANTI guys headed down to Phillip Island this morning, for the annual teams race - a 110km race taking place on the world famous Phillip Island MotoGP track. Although the motorbikes go a fraction faster, our racing was just as exciting and a little less predictable. (And no grid girls unfortunately)
With around 20 laps of racing ahead of us, we headed off on the first lap - by the time we reached the first corner, 300m down the road, we knew it was going to be one windy day on the bike! A few moves went during the first quarter of the race, but none were able to stay clear of the field. I tried my luck in one or two, but to no avail. I felt the 'cold and flu' tablets starting to wear off too, so I figured my race would be over before most others. I pulled out with 40km remaining, and watched the rest of the race from Pit Lane. A breakaway of three was eventually successful, and the race came down to a closely contested sprint finish, with Daniel Braunsteins of Drapac Porsche taking the win by the narrowest of margins. The TFM guys did very well, winning some cash in the sprints and overall standings in the teams classifications. Well done guys, sorry I pulled the plug so early! A special thank you to a certain someone for the sms before the race - things like that definitely put a smile on my face... I'm going to take a few days off the bike to recover properly. I think a combination of training and work has taken it's toll. When I get back on in 3 days, I'll start a strength phase under the guidance of Peter Barnett - one of the hardcore oldschool men from a few years ago. I'm sure I can learn alot from him. |
