With my first race behind me in the form of a small Northern Combine event, I was hoping to wade into the Tour of Coleraine with good legs, and a happy mind. But after the Northern Combine I've really had to rethink my approach!
What started off as a slow 90km race, soon picked up to what was quite a shock to the system! Genesys Wealth rider Dylan Newell was at the pointy end of the event comfortably holding in the top 10. However soon he got bored, and hit one of the climbs reasonably hard - getting quite the reaction from the mainfield. I did my best to go along, and started to pay the price for the night before... Yep, I got a massage the night before a race. There's a first time and a last time to make a mistake, and on this occasion I ticked both boxes in one hit. Come the 2nd lap of 3 in total, and I was having trouble feeling my legs. I couldn't really gauge where I was at, since my heart rate was okay, my lungs were struggling with the sudden change in intensity, and my legs were just not responding. But anyways, it's still early days! Coming up this weekend is the Tour of Coleraine - see below for a full summary. http://www.colerainetour.com/ |
